The months are 13 in number, each 28 days long. Each month is divided into four weeks of even length, the names of the days going back almost past recorded history. Each year's end is marked by an 'Empty' day. Standard mythology holds that this day is required to pull all the 'leftovers' from the previous year. All those who should have died and didn't, all those who should have been born and weren't, and all that which should have come to pass and did not are tallied, measured, and recorded on this day. Still, some gets lost, some gets left behind. Every four years, a second day is required, this one to tally that which should -not- have happened and did. As it is unknown how these tallies are balanced, the day(s) involved are those of revelry. It is thought that any lack or loss can surely be made up in a day of entertainment and mirth, and babies born on this day are in some areas thuoght to be touched by the Primals. Similarly, all who die on this day are considered to be 'called home' to their afterlife, and are celebrated as well.

Each Year begins on the last day of winter, determined originally by astronomic record. The celebratory Year's End day(s) do not fall within the month of Argus -or- Tempus, they are simply 'outside' the standard month's calendar.

The Months:

Argus - The First Month
Argus marks the creation of the world again at each year's beginning. He represents the entire potential of the year, true and false, and the ability of humanity to affect change on that potential.

Tiadus - The Second Month
Tiadet marks the beginning of Spring. Life's creation, and the goal of all to create new life within the world. It is the season of planting, and sprouting.

Lothus - The Third Month
Lothos is the preserver of nature, the continuation of life. His month is that in which the emerging life begins to take hold, to truly spread and cover the earth.

Aquas - The Fourth Month
Water is this Primal's domain, and it is only fitting that the wet spring be attributed to him. Changes in weather, from cold to warm, from dry to wet, are all contained and expressed in this month.

Rathleus - The Fifth Month
Rathleon is the conqueror, the destroyer, and the savior, all in one. He represents the death of that which should not be, to preserve that which should.

Mezulus - The Sixth Month
Fire signifies the hottest month of summer, which Mezul holds sway over. It is a time of heat, parched earth, and the testing of those required to work in it.

Kraetheary - The Seventh Month
The end of summer and the beginning of fall mark the point at which machinery and invention begins to be seen in the fields. From the earliest harvest to the creation of irrigation for the latest, Kraeth is the unspoken Primal of all farmers when nature's bounty needs a helping hand.

Daerilyus - The Eighth Month
Every farmer who has tilled the soil knows love. A proper crop is not fertilized by rain, or wind, or dung, but by the love of those who care for and nurture it. This month marks the expression of love, the bounty of nature returning that love in the form of harvest.

Krondus - The Ninth Month
Order and Law are necessary concepts for organization. Once the harvest is completed, it falls to the mindset of Krondor to make sure it is stocked and preserved for the winter to come. This is also the season for war. In times of famine, you simply look for food. In times of plenty to begin to argue over the silverware.

Cortrus - The Tenth Month
Cortras is the diplomat, the salve of history, the bringer of peace. After the strife of sacrifice and order is over, Cortras' month exists to bring feuds back to a close.

Oblivious - The Eleventh Month
As the new Primal of Death, Oblivious holds sway over the end of fall and beginning of winter. The creation of Death is his domain, and as the world dies, so does he emerge.

Vertus - The Twelfth Month
Vertax signifies the continuance of Death, that those who die are not forgotten, even in their absence. In the darkest winter, this month reminds us that even this will pass; not even death brings oblivion.

Tempus - The Last Month
Tempest, as the Primal of Time, holds sway over the ending of a year. It is by his decree that a year is declared ended, cut off, and the tallying begun before the next.
